The term “Immediate Loading” refers to the placement of the temporary prosthesis on the implants on the same day as the surgery.

Procedure for Dental Implants

1. First visit

In the first visit, the dentist performs an examination in the mouth and takes photographs and X-rays to have the maximum possible records of your case.

2. Case study

Dentists from various specialties meet in a clinical session to jointly study all your records, agree on a diagnosis and plan a treatment plan. In most cases it is necessary to perform a 3D scan of the mouth.

3. Implant placement

Through a painless procedure, an implant is inserted into the bone that acts as an artificial root. In some cases, the prosthesis can be placed on the same day and in others, it is necessary to wait for the integration of the implant into the bone.

4. Healing

The integration period, in which the implants are attached to the bone, is normally 3 or 4 months. However, this depends on the number of pieces to be placed, the complexity of the prosthesis and individual factors of each patient.

5. Definitive prosthesis

Once this integration period is over, the definitive prosthesis is placed on the implant. In the case of immediate loading, the provisional prosthesis placed on the day of implant placement will be replaced by the definitive one.

6. Control and revisions

You will have a check-up the first week, another at 6 months and then annual check-ups with the dentist in which a cleaning is also performed to guarantee a long durability of the treatment.

Frequently asked questions

In which cases is immediate loading recommended?

The requirements to be able to perform immediate loading implants are:

Have enough bone in sufficient quantity and quality.
There must be a space between the upper and lower teeth to be able to place the implant, the abutment and the prosthesis.
There must be good health of the gums and adjacent teeth.
The patient should not suffer from bruxism (grinding or clenching teeth).
The patient must have a correct occlusion.
The patient must take good care of their mouth.

Are these immediate dental prostheses definitive?

No. These prostheses are provisional and must be changed to definitive ones once the bone has healed (period of 3-4 months).

Is treatment with dental implants uncomfortable?

For the treatment, the dentist will numb the area with local anesthesia, so you will not feel pain during the procedure.

Is periodic maintenance of the prosthesis and implants necessary?

Yes, your dentist will tell you how to maintain good hygiene of your prosthesis at home and you will have to attend the annual maintenance visits.
