Invisalign® invisible orthodontics is an advanced treatment that allows you to correct defects in your teeth without the need for brackets. The invisible orthodontics technique consists of a series of virtually invisible and removable aligners developed by Align Technology. These aligners are changed approximately every two weeks for a new set to gradually move the teeth.
With each change of aligners, which will be manufactured specifically for you, we will move the teeth until they are aligned and in the final position prescribed by the orthodontist.
In order to be effective and achieve the desired tooth movement, the patient must wear the aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day.

Treatment phases with Invisalign®
1. First visit
In the first visit, the orthodontist will carry out a first evaluation of the state of your mouth and will give you a first orientation on the treatment to be carried out. In the second visit, the treatment plan agreed upon in a clinical session by the medical team and the phases of the treatment to be followed will be explained to you.
2. Impressions and ClinCheck
Invisalign aligners are custom made to fit each patient’s mouth. To do this, we take impressions with the iTero intraoral scanner. With these records, and thanks to the ClinCheck software, we can create a virtual 3D treatment plan that will allow us to plan the micromovements to which your teeth will be subjected, as well as show you what they will look like after the treatment is finished.
3. Manufacture of aligners
Invisalign aligners are custom made to fit each patient’s mouth. To do this, we take impressions with the escOnce the simulations have been approved by the patient and the orthodontist, the aligners are made. From 18 to 36 sets of aligners will be made (depending on each case) that will correspond to the different stages of the treatment.áner intraoral iTero. 4. Start of treatment
The orthodontist will explain in detail how the aligners should be placed, how they should be removed for eating or brushing your teeth and how to keep them clean during the time you should wear them.
5. New aligners
In general, every two weeks, you should change your aligners for new ones, adapted to that phase of the treatment. On each visit you will be given several sets of aligners, depending on each stage of the treatment. In this way we will avoid you having to come to the clinic every 2 weeks.
6. End of treatment
The complete Invisalign® treatment usually includes between 18 and 36 sets of aligners, which means that a treatment normally lasts between 9 and 18 months, depending on the case. At the end of the treatment, the teeth will have corrected their position as shown in the 3D animation, and you will have the smile you have always wanted.

Frequently asked questions
Is the treatment annoying and/or painful? Can Invisalign® treat cases like mine?dental implants?
Invisalign is capable of correcting a large number of dental pathologies. As the technique evolves, and orthodontists master it more, the range of difficulty of the cases to be treated and the level of the results obtained increases.
Will I really be able to remove them whenever I want?
Of course, Invisalign® aligners are 100% removable. You can take them off whenever you want: to eat, for an important meeting, etc. However, remember that, to be effective, they must be worn most of the day (minimum 22 hours).
What are attachments and what are they for?
Attachments are composite reliefs that adhere to the teeth and make the Invisalign system much more effective, since the aligners by themselves cannot make the movements and need these reliefs to be able to exert more force and that the teeth rotate towards the position we want.
There are different types of attachments that vary in size and shape, as well as their use will vary depending on the purpose they have for them. Therefore, like the aligners, they are a personalized system. It is very common for a person not to wear the same attachments throughout the treatment, since these will be changed according to the needs of each stage.
Once the treatment is finished, we will remove all the attachments from the teeth.
How does ClinCheck work?
This is a software that will predict how the entire treatment will be. In it you will be able to see all the movements that the teeth are going to make over time, which will allow you to see the final result and the smile you will have once you finish the treatment.
How is Invisalign® Orthodontics used?
The use of Invisalign® is very simple although it requires a small period of adaptation on your part, since you must learn to put on and take off the aligners. This should not worry you; the orthodontist and her team will show you how to do it. It is completely normal that at first it is difficult for you to place the aligners, or even that you feel that they squeeze a lot, that they do not fit well or that you are going to break them by placing them. It’s all a matter of practice; in a few days you will get used to it and these sensations will disappear.
Can I drink and eat with Invisalign® Orthodontics?
This treatment does not involve restrictions with drinks or food. In relation to drinks, you can only consume water with the aligners on. To drink other types of drinks you must remove them; otherwise they could stain and even deform (hot drinks). With regard to meals, since you must remove the aligners beforehand before ingesting any type of food, you can eat everything.
How are the aligners cleaned?
Hygiene in the case of Invisalign® is very simple since by being able to remove the aligners, we will be able to brush our teeth as we normally do. The aligners must also be cleaned every time we remove them.
For this, it is best to use a brush, neutral soap and warm water (never hot water, as the aligners can be deformed). It is also recommended to have the habit of placing the aligners in water with a tablet of those used to clean dental prostheses. This prevents the aligners from having a bad odor.
When is it recommended to use Invisalign® Orthodontics?
The use of Invisalign® is indicated both for alignment and bite cases (crossbite, overbite, open bite, teeth with crowding, separations and diastemas).
Although a few years ago it was preferable to treat certain cases with fixed appliances (bracket systems), Invisalign is currently just as effective in resolving complex bite and alignment problems. However, you must bear in mind that these more complex cases will require a longer duration of treatment.
What types of Invisalign® Orthodontics exist?
Depending on the particular case of each patient, it will be recommended to use one type or another of Invisalign. These are the ones that are currently available:
- Invisalign Lite: is the treatment indicated for the mildest cases. It has an estimated duration of 12 months. It is usually placed by people who used orthodontics previously but for some reason did not have adequate retention and their teeth have moved.
- Invisalign Full: is the longest and most complete treatment, especially indicated for people who have never worn orthodontics and who have to make changes both in their alignment and also in their bite. The duration of treatment can be between 12 to 24 months, but it can take longer.
- Invisalign Teen: treatment for children and adolescents. It is similar to Invisalign Full but has some changes aimed at children such as colors, among others. The duration is also between 12 to 24 months.
When will I start to notice the changes?
To see changes in our teeth will depend on each particular case and its complexity. For example, those who use the simplest treatment, Invisalign Lite, will see changes sooner than those who use the Full version. Generally, in about three or four weeks it will be possible to notice some changes.
From what age can Invisalign® Orthodontics be used?
The recommended age to start with Invisalign is from 9 years old, which is when children have already made the change of their teeth. In the Invisalign Teen version, there is a mandibular advancement treatment that is suitable for children between 9 and 11 years old. This solution is designed as a correction for Class II (a position of the jaw that is behind the upper jaw).
Can I smoke using Invisalign® Orthodontics?
To smoke, it is necessary to remove the aligners, since tobacco can stain the splints and cause spots to appear on them. However, if you are a person who smokes a lot, this will mean that you will not be able to comply with the amount of time you should wear the aligners per day (22 hours), so the treatment may be prolonged.
Am I going to have pain with the use of Invisalign® Orthodontics?
Pain or discomfort may appear during the adaptation period to the aligners, but it will disappear in a few days. Even so, these discomforts will always be much less than those experienced with traditional braces, since the wires can cause sores.
What are the materials used to create Invisalign orthodontics?
For the creation of Invisalign, a special technology is used that has several steps:
- Diagnosis and record taking: first, a general diagnosis of each case is made, where aspects such as the duration of the treatment, the malocclusions that must be corrected, etc. are determined. Afterwards, all the details of the patient’s mouth are obtained by taking records.
- Sending of records: the records of the patient’s mouth, as well as the treatment instructions, are sent digitally to the company that is responsible for manufacturing the Invisalign aligners, Align Technology.
- Information processing: the manufacturer works under the information provided and makes a digital reproduction of the patient’s upper and lower arches. From there, they create the movements that the teeth will make with the use of Invisalign.
- Review: the orthodontist reviews the work done by the Align Technology technicians.
- Manufacturing: once the treatment plan is approved, all the aligners that the patient should use are manufactured.
- Shipping: the splints are received in the clinic and delivered to the patient.
